Passionate and committed
Off The Hook is a New, exciting and fresh fishmongers based in Wadebridge, Cornwall, committed to providing the freshest Cornish fish for their customers.
The owner, Jon has over ten years experience in the fish trade. He has won many awards, prizes and trophies during this time, for his fish craft at national events. (National Federation of Fishmongers) Fish Craft Championship. He has also competed in some closer to home at Newlyn (Fish Festival) Cornish Fishmonger of the Year!

Becoming a Company Trainer for his previous employer, Jon became well known for his knowledge and skill for the trade he had become fascinated with, training other fishmongers, new and experienced alike, supporting colleagues up and down the country.

This also included training people to a national hygiene standard. He was chosen to record educational videos for schools, bringing local school children into store and local harbour sides to teach them about fish. These videos have been used by schools to further the education of children. Jon has a passion for teaching all children to learn about fish and for them to enjoy the bountiful fruits of the sea! He has given his own free time going into schools, talking and demonstrating all aspects of fish.

His passion for Fresh Fish and Cooking, has inspired him to further his knowledge, enrolling in a City and Guilds Fishmonger Course run by Billingsgate Seafood School. Gaining a High Distinction.

With fresh fish arriving daily, we have a large range available on our counter all year round, from some of the finest producers and suppliers Cornwall has to offer as well as some Unique suppliers to the fish trade. One such supplier is an award winner located less than 5 miles from Off the Hook!

We stock a diverse range of fish which include everything from Cod, Haddock, Hake, Lemon sole, Brill, Squid, Mackerel, Wild Sea Bass to Crab and Lobster, The list goes on…
Most fish is available all year round, but some are only available on a seasonal basis. We never quite know what is going to be landed from one day to the next, so it’s always quite exciting what is going to be available, but we always aim to display a wonderful selection.
Kay is new to fishmongery but has over 20 years experience working in retail. She has showing a real interest and passion for fish and is developing her knife skills quickly supporting Jon in the shop. Preparing many of the fish stocked here at "Off the the Hook" her favourite by far is John Dory and our Thai style monk stir-fry. "Fish is so quick and simple to cook there's so many different fish to try and so many flavours we can certainly help you with recipe ideas and we do all the prep work for you" she said.

Off the Hook, is a small local family business looking to develop and grow the business from within. We have three children between us showing an interest in the trade and attending events such as Newlyn Fish Festival and Brixham Fishstock, two of the largest fish festivals in the South West. They all enjoy trying new species and ask many, many questions about fish!
Erin, AKA "Mini Monger"
From an early age Erin has found fish fascinating and helped her dad Jon at home preparing fish and supporting him at competitions. At the age of seven she began to help demonstrate filleting mackerel packing and dressing whole crab in front of crowds at Brixham's Fishstock. She enjoys helping out in the shop on school holidays and weekends.
"Fabulous Mussels! Clean and so sweet. Visited this week after wild weather in North Cornwall, so supplies were a little low, but his prices were still very fair. A great find. He deserves to do well."
